Summerland Rotary Sunday Market – News

The Summerland Rotary Club has decided to forgo offering a Sunday Market this summer. We feel it is a prudent decision to be made as we in BC rally behind our political and health leaders trying to tame the continuing Covid threat.

We hope we can return to the world we’re more familiar with next summer feeling more comfortable with Covid protocols that hopefully will be firmly established and practised by all.

Thank you everyone for your support over the past several years.

Summerland Rotary Sunday Market – COVID-19

A Message to our Vendors:

The Summerland Rotary Sunday Market committee hopes each one of you is staying safe and healthy during the COVID-19 pandemic.

At this time and after reviewing the linked media release (March 26th, 2020) from the BC Centre for Disease Control at http://www.bccdc.ca/health-info/diseases-conditions/covid-19/community-settings/farmers-markets the Rotary Club of Summerland has determined that it would not be able to host the Summerland Sunday Market under the current COVID-19 rigid restrictions.

Specifically.

  • discontinuing all food sampling
  • cancelling activities that promote gatherings
  • not allowed to sell crafts and artisan products
  • limit entry to allow for physical distancing

However, we remain hopeful that before May 30th (nine + weeks from now) these conditions may be lifted in which case, our Market could start by our scheduled opening date of June 21, 2020.

The Summerland Rotary Sunday Market committee will keep you updated on any decisions that are made between now and May 30th that would affect yourselves and the operation of the Market for the 2020 season.

Please contact me by return email if you have further questions.

Take care and stay safe

COVID-19

With growing global concerns around COVID-19 (“coronavirus”), we are staying up to date on the developments and watching closely the information from Health and Government Authorities, ensuring we follow their recommendations. The health and safety of all vendors and customers of the Summerland Rotary Sunday Market and our Summerland Rotary volunteers are of utmost importance.

The Public Health Agency of Canada has currently assessed the public health risk associated with COVID-19 as low, in Canada and British Columbia, something we will continue to monitor.

The announcement of March 12, 2020 by the BC Provincial Health Officer has huge implications to Farmers Markets as it prohibits public gatherings of more than 250 persons and recommends social distancing practices. At this time; the Summerland Rotary Sunday Market will continue as planned on the 21st of June (92 days from now)  however, the Rotary Club of Summerland Executive will continue to monitor the situation as things are changing daily.

Wish you all good health during these unprecedented times.

Regards
